Title I is intended to help ensure that all students have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments. It is the largest federal program supporting elementary and secondary education. Funds may be used to provide additional instructional staff, professional development, extended-time programs, and other strategies for raising student achievement in high-poverty schools.
At Truro Central School, our Title I grant funds are used in two ways. In Preschool, students receive assistance with skills that help them to get ready for Kindergarten. This component of our Title I program takes place throughout the day in the Preschool classroom. Students in grades 4-6 benefit from Title I services in the form of before or after school tutoring in Math and/or Reading/English Language Arts (ELA). In all cases, students are invited to participate in the program as a result of a ranking process that evaluates common test scores, evaluations and teacher recommendations.
