Giraffe Heroes!

Click here to read and view some great videos about Giraffe Heroes who are making a difference.  Is there something you can do to be a Giraffe Hero?

Ideas for Giraffe research

Here are some ideas to get you started. You do not have to choose from one of these; however, your Giraffe must be an organization that assists PEOPLE in a developing country in Africa, South America, Asia, or Central America. If you choose your own, make sure that the website gives you information about the founder of the organization (person) or the history behind how the organization began.

We read about how one woman made a difference by picking up one plastic bag...then two....then a hundred in the book One Plastic Bag by Miranda Paul. Explore Isatou's story further in this website. Then check out some of the other ideas below.

Isatou Cheesay is educating women in The Gambia, Africa to recycle plastic waste—one of the worst pollutants—into revenue for themselves. For 17 years, she has been empowering women, and contributing to one of the most important issues around waste.

Choose from one of the following organizations or do some research and find another that interests you. For example, if you are interested in learning about Central America and farming, you might do an Internet search for "literacy non profit organizations".

Dr. Sakena Yacoobi saw the need for education and healthcare and education about health to help desperate people improve their situation. Now the Afghan people are ready for more than basics and so the Afghan Institute of Learning has workshops on peace, elections, leadership and many other subjects enhancing the capacity of people.
