Mrs. Bradford's Kindergarten

Dear Families,
Get ready, February is an exciting month in Kindergarten! February 16th will be the 100th day of Kindergarten! To celebrate, we will be having a party full of wonderful 100-ful things and we hope that you will be here to celebrate with us. If there are no snow days between now and Thursday February 16th we will have an afternoon celebration that we hope all adult family members can be a part of (if there is a snow day, then the 100th day of K will be on Friday February 17th and the party will be that day instead).
Please keep an eye out for a letter asking you to help your child/children to prepare a collection of 100 things. The letter will come with a plastic bag and the collection needs to fit into the bag (the collection will be returned in March). To help your child count to 100, have them make groups of ten and then count by 10s to 100. The collections can be anything, but if your child has trouble thinking of what to use, it could be beans, Legos, cereal, paperclips, crayons, beads, pebbles, shells, etc…
We will start “Star of the Day” in February and continue it for the next few months. You will receive more information about “Star of the Day” soon, and the date for your child will be at the top of the letter. If there is a conflict with the day, please let me know.
For Valentine’s Day (Tuesday February 14th) we will have a small celebration in the afternoon during which we will eat Valentine treats and exchange Valentines. Your child does not have to bring in Valentines for the class, but if s/he wants to, please make sure that there is one for each of his/her classmates (I’ve attached a class list). If you would like to send in a special snack for that day please let me know (email, phone call, or note in family folder).
The Kindergarteners will work on writing letters/cards/notes this month by writing to each other and to their families. The letters will start with “Dear” or “To”, and they will end with “From” or “Fondly”. Ex.-->
In Math we will be skip-counting by 10s and learning about volume.
In Science we will be studying animals and their habitats. The learning will be guided by student interests and the question of “what do animals need to survive?” Some of the vocabulary words we will use in this unit are, “food”, “shelter”, “habitat”, “wild”, and “tame”.
Please call or email with any questions.
Fondly,
Ms. Bradford
