The Water Cycle-

“Evaporation,

Condensation,

Precipitation on my mind-

And it all goes ‘round the cycle

And it happens all the time.”- Sung to the tune of Clementine

Flash floods are the number one weather related killer in the United States!  Capable of floating cars, moving boulders and shaking buildings from their foundations, flash floods occur when enormous amounts of rain fall in a short period of time.  They have also been known to happen when a dam or levy fails, or an ice jam lets go.  Living in close proximity to rivers, stream dams or levies will increase your risk of flooding on your property in general.  Wetlands are nature’s natural defense against flooding.  Over the past several years, development in the flood plains has increased.  Building in these areas has lessened nature’s ability to take care of itself when these torrential rain storms, hurricanes, or breeches occur.
